Teddy Bear’s BBQ

Disclaimer #1: This is a Post from the Far East … meaning Eastside, and we’re not talking Bothell, boys and girls. For dinner last night, I went to Duvall.

Teddy Bear’s BBQ is currently holding the award for Best Barbecue I’ve Had in Washington. The beef barbecue sandwich was pulled (which I’ve never experienced in a beef sandwich) and it didn’t have a strong smoky taste, but nonetheless, it was flavorful, I could tell that it was the right cut of meat, and it had the pink edge of quality. Moreover, Konrad and Phyllis understood the concept of no sauce! They had three different kinds of sauces at the table — sweet, medium, and hot — but they didn’t automatically mask the meat’s natural flavor. The meat didn’t need it.

I also tried a piece of their barbecued chicken and it was flavorful and moist. All the locals ordered ribs, and they looked happy, but I judge a place by the beef sandwich, so I just took their word for it. My sides were excellent, too, and not out of some industrial tub. Cornbread with butter and honey made a perfect dessert.

Disclaimer #2: I’m not promising you’ll love it. Everyone has their own taste in barbecue. I’ll still be trying other barbecue places in Seattle and nearby towns … but when I was in Texas, I’d drive to Lockhart for barbecue. In Washington, I’ll be driving to Duvall.

I’ve gotta agree with you on your assessment–I was never so happy to discover a new restaurant. I live near Duvall, and it has been a culinary wasteland out here for ages. Things are picking up, but I am so glad to have a quick, cheap place for dinner when it is late, we are tired, and just rolling back through town after some day-long activity. The ribs truly are excellent. Had guests last night who lived in Texas for years (unwillingly) and have finally been able to high-tail it to Portland. They declared it the best BBQ they’d had since leaving the Lone Star State. Good enough for me.

Teddy Bear is great! Currently living in the wasteland that is Cottage Lake (I went for 8 and a half days without power during the windstorm!) I prefer to go to Duvall instead of Redmond or Woodinville for most of my eats. Teddy Bear BBQ is awesome, the Duvall Grill and Taproom is awesome (great beer selection and fantastic food), the Ixtapa is really good (the family that owns it owns this little chain of Mexican restaurants that are all along highway 2), and The Thai Restaurant is pretty good too. I have yet to have bad eats in Duvall and encourage anyone in the area to give them a try. It’s a cute little town with plenty to eat and drink.
