Obligatory Weather Rant

Please beware as a rant follows:

These Seattlites don’t know anything about weather. I grew up in Northern Canada, and let me tell you, we had weather. Here a few snowflakes fall on Capitol Hill, and they close the city down. I lived through the Washington DC Blizzard of ’98 and we commuted 40 miles through three foot drifts – and that was on the highway. And another thing, drivers – snow means you drive slower, not faster. Just because you have an SUV does not make you immune to the laws of physics. If you drive too fast in slippery conditions you WILL scratch the paint on your previous Sequoia.

Rant completed. Thank you for your time.

When I lived in Boulder, you would drive down the highway in the snow and see four-wheel drive vehicles in the ditch. In fact, I think during one storm I saw 3 4x4s for every 1 non-4×4.

Four-wheel drive is great in snow, but on ice it behaves just like everything else on ice, only far worse if you’re driving like it’s a dry road.

There must be some kind of law where you adapt to the situation you are in and find it to be most troublesome. A light dusting is all they get here in Vancouver and they shut things down because otherwise, we’d be working more than across the country that gets snow days. =)
