Trolloween Endorsement

While we’re all pondering candidates over here at Metblogs, I would like to issue a hearty endorsement for Trolloween, Fremont’s Halloween celebration/birthday of the Troll. I haven’t had this much fun at a Halloween party since I was still young enough to trick-or-treat.

I mean, where else can you find robots dancing with princesses?

Or bands made up of skeletons?

It may just be that I’ve always wanted to be in a parade, but never had any reason to- but getting to march through the streets of Seattle with a bunch of other costumed revelers, well, like I said, I’ve never had so much fun on Halloween as an adult. So, if you’re ever in the neighborhood and looking for something to do on Halloween, I wholeheartedly recommend the Fremont Art Council’s Trolloween celebration.

Green Halloween

Local Mom, Corey Colwell-Lipson, introduced us all to the concept of Green Halloween in 2007, and now just one year later it’s a nation-wide phenomenon. Green Halloween is “a non-profit, grassroots community initiative to create healthier and more Earth-friendly holidays, starting with Halloween.” The idea is to be more thoughtful about what you hand out to trick-or-treaters by providing items that are kid healthy, planet healthy, and people friendly.

Their website is full of resources for healthy treats (like fruit leathers, honey sticks), non-food treats (like stickers and bubbles), and trick-or-treating alternatives (like hosting a neighborhood Halloween party). They also have a pretty extensive calendar of events in the Seattle area.

If you want to identify your home as participating in Green Halloween, you can download the logo to make a sign for your door.

While I typically support all things green and healthy, my kid doesn’t get much junk food or candy the rest of the year, so I’m inclined to let her indulge a little for Halloween. What about you? Are you doing anything to make your Halloween more healthy and green?

Family Day at SAM

Art activities, games and live performances to celebrate the opening of the S’abadeb exhibit of Pacific coast Salish art.

Family day activities are from 10am – 3pm on 10/25. The exhibit runs through 1/11.

Greenwood Fall Carnival

Face painting, bouncy houses, games, music and food. Proceeds benefit art and music programs at Greenwood Elementary. While you’re there you can hit the Greenwood Safe Trick or Treat from noon – 3pm.

Family Concert at Town Hall

Chic Streetman comes to Town Hall as part of the Saturday Family Concert series with a performance entitled, “What are Mom and Dad voting for?”

Hayrides, face painting, vegetable car races and more. Plus, planting containers are 40% off.

Day of the Dead craft activity

Create and decorate a skeleton mobile at the Greenwood library to celebrate Day of the Dead.

Halloween Happenings

Mt. Baker Trick or Treat Party – meet at Bradner Gardens Park. 10/26, 2-4pm. Come in costume. Bring your own apples and cup to make your own apple cider on a manual apple press.
Pacific Science Center has tricks, treats and science feats and nightly Haunted Hikes.
Un-haunted house at Moonpaper Tent
Trick or treat on the waterfront with entertainment and activities at the Aquarium
Pumpkin prowl at the zoo
