You know you were sad when they ran a re-run last week and there was no recap on this here metblog. It’s all okay now, sweetie, last night we had a new episode and I diligently sat in front of my mini-tv with my laptop and lovingly captured it all for you. Yes, just you. It’s all after the jump.
Love,

grey’s anatomy recap : oh, the guilt (season 3, episode 5)

greys1019.JPG
What an appropriate title for this week’s episode! I am just like the Seattle Grace Hospital people since I’m totally feeling guilty as well. You see, Josh usually gets his recap up right away and I, on the other hand, have completely slacked and didn’t get this sucker up until Sunday. In my defense I was down in Portland and did not have my laptop with me. Seriously, I’m not lying. Why would I lie? But rest assured I am in town this week and will have no excuse for not recapping promptly in our fair leader’s absence.

And now without further ado, the recap….

grey’s anatomy recap : self-discovery takes discomfort (season 3, episode 4)

Gas3E4 Fireface

O.K., so I always joke about the voiceover, but tonight I missed it and found myself disoriented, with no idea what to expect from this episode. Maybe it the half pitcher of pumpkin ale was a contributing factor, but I’ve grown incredibly reliant on Grey’s pre-episode summaries and philosophizing for context.

Don’t worry, in terms of long-term plot development only two really important things happen during this episode and I eventually caught the first few minutes. You’ll find a full recap after the jump. Feel free to use the comments as your virtual water cooler to discuss the finer points of our favorite pretend-local hit drama.

grey’s anatomy : i wish i knew how to quit you

Last week, Grey’s Anatomy launched into its third pseudo-Seattle-related season, picking up minutes after the last one left off. Metroblogging Seattle dropped the ball on continuing our proud tradition of hectically-typed recaps, on the premise that streaming web video made text-based locally-written play-by-plays a thing of the not-so-distant past. Since then, a couple people have written to ask when the recaps will return.

Right now they’re in a light coma, but still potentially revivable. What do you think? Do you want them back so that you can have a local virtual water cooler to gather around and dissect the fictional doctors of our fair city? Take the poll and we’ll re-evaluate whether they’re worth bringing back before it’s too late.

Choose wisely, the fate of my Thursday evenings rests in your hands.

grey’s anatomy : all about the internet

Devotees and wannabe fans of “Seattle”-based medical drama Grey’s Anatomy [abc] who need a refresher on the show’s finale (as if our extensive tag-team recappery [mb] wasn’t enough) might still be able to download the last episode free of charge as part of ABC’s “million hit lowdown” [abc] promotion. Get that sucker on your iPod and relive the Snow Patrol soundtracked angsty cliffhanger that’s been hovering over your summer like a bad habit.

Speaking of our favorite pseudo-obsession, ABC is planning to stream new episodes of the show, which has its third season premiere on 21 Sepetmber, free-of-charge over the internet [zap2it]. So people with Thursday night plans and no DVRs will be able to watch it all the next day on their high-bandwidth lunchbreaks. Kind of makes hastily-typed excruciatingly-detailed recaps seem horribly outdated.1

1. That is, I’m not really sure that there’s a point to doing long recaps about a show only tangentially related to Seattle. But, if you want them to continue — or better yet! want to write them, please drop us an e-mail at seattle.metblogs (at) gmail.com

grey’s anatomy report : an honor to be nominated

Despite going into the ceremony with all sorts of nominations (11), Seattle’s favorite fictional doctors took home a whopping zero statues in tonight’s 58th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Grey’s Anatomy’s flirtation with bomb scare plotline wasn’t enough to upset 24’s hours of all terror all the time in the race for best drama. Unfortunately, there was no category for use of opening and closing voiceover for the purpose of thematic summaries, depiction of Seattle as a rainy ferry [boat] wonderland, or medical love triangles.

I guess the show did grab an Emmy for casting last week [wapost]; so at least they were recognized for their eclectic choices of actors to round out all of that medical geometry-defying drama.

If you missed the telecast and need to do some Monday morning fashion critique (which is the real point of these things anyway, right?), more than a few pictures of the Seattle Grace crew in something other than scrubs are yours for the viewing at GettyImages [#,#].

inside anatomy : seattle resident tells all

When I first saw ABC’s advertisments for Grey’s Anatomy, way back in the olden days of Spring 2005, I hoped that a local surgical resident would eventually weigh in on the authenticity of the show [mb]. A few dozen recaps later, and my wish has come true. Well, not really, but I did stumble across this weblog posting from a Seattle-area resident who has exposed the inaccuracies in the television drama’s depiction of hospital life:

>> I have never seen an African-American attending physician–of any specialty–at the Seattle Grace Hospital analogue. I only know of one African-American resident. He’s not a surgeon.

>> I have not slept with any of my attendings. (Although there is still time, I suppose.)

>> I don’t wear make-up. Just like the vast majority of the female surgery interns and residents (who still remain in the minority of surgery residents).[intueri]

She doesn’t mention anything about the lack of extra-dimensional geography or the absence of insane rainstorms; so at least we know that some aspects of the show are true to life.

It’s Always Grey in Seattle

McVet.jpg

Chris O’Donnell as Finn, aka McVet.

Fully admitting that I’m sitting at my computer killing time today – unable to go back to bed no matter how badly I want to, due to parental scorn on the couch – I, through the miracle of clicking links, found my way onto a TV-scoop website. And what did my wandering eyes see, but a small update on next season’s Grey’s Anatomy! I figured, if you’re like me, you’re in mid-summer withdrawal, wondering just when the new season starts, and what in the world is going to happen!

Well, now I can tell you one thing: our wonderful McVet, Chris O’Donnell? Only listed as a recurring character for part of the season.

Hmm… ;)
