This little store is truly awesome. It is a haven for serious tchotchke collectors and liberal activists. Here you can find the pirate devil duck, the crazy cat lady action figure, and many more must-have gadgets and objects. An entire corner is devoted to liberal items including books, stickers, buttons, posters and magnets–such as a green ribbon that encourages one to “Support Our Environment.”

They often have discounts on purchases if you can answer their trivia question posted on the board behind the register. The shop is named after the 1967 television series, The Prisoner.

Seattle was the kick-off city for their 5-day tour, Project West Coast: Al Franken on the West Coast. Co-hosts Al Franken and Katherine Lanpher did their thing in front of an enthusiastic live audience at The Seattle Town Hall. Their guests were Congressman Jay Inslee, County Executive Ron Sims, and The Stranger Editor Dan Savage. The Oy yoy yoy show was sponsored by “Pacific Northwest Smoked Salmon,” their motto: “We never said it was lox.” You can download the May 9 show here.

Can’t claim to be proud to be Irish since I’m not. Though I’m proud my fiance is. I am proud to be-ish, however. It gives me a perfect excuse to forget to wear green to work, and a brilliant excuse to get a Shamrock Shake at McDonald’s. This is the only time of year I’d enter the place (not that I’m advocating McDonald’s as Thee Place to be on St. Patrick’s Day). The last couple years when we lived in Chicago, the nearby McDonald

On Saturday the fiance and I explored West Seattle for the first time. We ate lunch at West Five Lounge and Restaurant. Surrounded by retro decor reminiscent of a bowling alley, we ate great food while people-watching.

We discovered the Next To Nature pet store, where large friendly canines play and a kind black cat roams freely, letting total strangers pet her. They offer free pet food samples, and the sales person was extremely helpful. Animal food made us hungry again, so we crossed the street to Ben & Jerry

Hello, my name is Rachel and I’m new to Seattle Metroblogging. I’m from Chicago and have been living in Seattle for about nine months.

One of my happy discoveries here is Top Pot Doughnuts. In Belltown, the slanted store-front window reaches from ground to roof as do the bookshelves. Two floors are connected by a winding staircase. They also have free wi-fi. Their doughnuts tend to bring out the primordial sugar craving in me. When near, a panicky voice in my head screams: ‘You may never have a Top Pot doughnut again so now’s your chance!’ I especially like the chocolate with maple icing.

Yesterday I went to the cat show at Seattle Center. In order to fit the theme of “My Furry Valentine,” stuffed hearts sat atop cages while the colors pink and red were everywhere. The cats themselves came in all different colors, shapes, and sizes: orange, white, gray, calico, tabby, black. Some had big shaggy tales, while others didn’t have tails at all. I have yet to understand the cats without fur–they just don’t seem to be very happy without it.

The “Cat Agility” contest made me laugh because it was rather anti-climactic. I watched a feline slowly walk beside–and then hide under–the obstacles. It didn’t matter that his owner had about six different cat toys. The contest proved what my cat reminds me daily: cats are cats, and will continue to do as they please.

Happy Valentine’s Day.
