School will soon be out and that means it’s time for Seattle Public Library’s summer reading program! This year’s theme is “Reading is Natural”. Kids who keep a reading log (available at any library branch) will receive a sticker for each book read; after 10 books they’ll receive a paperback book of their choice and are entered for a chance to attend the City Librarian’s Breakfast of Champions (hosted this year by KING 5′s Dennis Bounds).

But wait – the kids don’t get to have ALL the fun. SPL has a program for adult readers too – Dive Into Summer Reading. Read just three books and you’ll receive a “Literary Latte” good for a $4 purchase at Starbucks. You’ll also be entered to win a Booklover’s Basket of Goodies; every three books gets you another entry into the drawing (though sadly, not more free coffee).

Join participants in over 50 cities worldwide in protesting oil dependency and celebrating nakedity by slapping on some body paint (or not) and riding your bike from Gas Works park through various Seattle neighbourhoods. The ride itself starts at high noon, and there will be a Pre-ride bodypainting/bike-decorating party starting at 9am at the north end of the park.

While the weather forecast doesn’t look great, don’t let that stop you from participating (and don’t forget the sunscreen, just in case!) or at the very least cheering the riders on. [WNBR Seattle]

Judge John Bridges has just issued his ruling on the state Governor’s race… Christine Gregoire gets to keep her keys to the mansion – at least for now.

While Judge Bridges criticized the elections process and called for voter-initiated electoral reform, he dismissed charges of fraud and willful misconduct and found no evidence that any of the 1600+ votes he determined to be illegal went to Gregoire.

An appeal to the state Supreme Court is likely to be forthcoming, but this verdict definitely deals a blow to Dino Rossi’s quest to overturn or throw out results of the final hand re-count.

The P-I and Times have the details. Read all about ‘em.
