Outdoor Movies In Fremont

As this post is hitting the site, a film is being projected onto a whitewashed wall in a parking lot on the corner of 35th and Phinney for a “suggested donation” of $5.00. All the details and schedule of upcoming movies are on the Seattle Outdoor Cinema site. There will be different movies each Saturday starting tonight, all the way until the end of August.

It is a bring your own bean bags to sit in kinda event, and there are some movies where it looks like they are going to do a Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and/or Rocky Horror thing with real actors from Jet City Improv mocking or commenting on the on-screen activity.

Tonight’s inagural film for the 2005 season is Napoleon Dynamite, which results in the most “Oh my god, you have not seen that! You have to see that!” responses from people when I tell them I have not actually seen it out of any movie I have not seen in a long time. Then I get some line about a mexican appetizer but pronounced incorrectly. I dont get that part, but the film certainly has its fans.

Beats sitting in a giganto-plex watching Batman’s Teenage Years Part 3 .

Just in case you were the one person in all of King county who did not attend the Fremont Solstice Fair over the weekend, here are some photos taken by yours truly as well as by other attendees who have graciously posted the images at the best photo sharing site around, Flickr.

MILD WARNING – depending on the level of oppression at your place of employment, these may not be work safe because some do contain actual naked human beings. With no clothes on. Tastefully done of course, but still nekid.

Mighty Music

Mighty Music is a non-profit artist collective based here in Seattle and is intended as a platform for artists of all genres (music, visual arts, literary, dance, painting, etc.) who believe that the experience of art can be transforming; and who want to positively impact the world by being sources for that.

Founded by song writer and performer Suzanne Turner, Mighty Music puts on shows of music, poetry and art around the Seattle area featuring artists that want to make a difference.

More Visual Washington and Seattle

For those of you have not seen the satellite imagery that Google offers for their mapping service, creepiness aside, it is amazing.

The resolution is high enough that it has spawned a sightseeing page that points out interesting things that are clearly visible from space.

There is already a page dedicated to our state, and Seattle-ites (get it satellite, seattlites) should be able to recognize several local landmarks, including the Mukelteo ferry waiting to pull away. Also, apparently Safeco Field has its name on the roof.

This is older technology, as the photos appear to be several years old,(the building I live in does not exist in them) so if using this declassified, civilian technology I can pick out my office-mates car from space in the parking lot at work, remind me again why can’t we find Osama with the stuff the military must have if they let us use this level of the technology?

Maybe you are not from around these North Western parts and wonder what all these places that get mentioned in these
posts actually look like. Luckily there are many options for those of you to absorb the imagery of Seattle without
having to actually be here, or for those who are, without having to venture into that oh so cruel and unforgiving environment known as “outdoors”.

More personal versions of Seattle here at www.flickr.com. Lots of photos from neighborhoods and out of the way, locals only, unusual places
that may even make a born-and-raised-er go “ooooooh cool”. Hmmm appears that some familiar names participate in this group which may be noticed by the observant.

Maybe you need to send something more spiffy and uniquely Seattle to someone as a gift. Or a bribe. This place has suitable for framing, graft and corruption quality, much more formal pictures of Seattle. Mostly consists of the biggies – The Space Needle, Safeco Field, Gas Works, but also some of the more photogenic neighborhoods, like mine. Inexpensive not so much. But nice.
The Seattle PI also has a bunch, pretty predictable, but also nice.

Reminder: Art Walk in Fremont Tomorrow Night

Just a reminder, (since I saw all the sidewalk signs for this on my way into work this morning) The Fremont First Friday Art Walk is tomorrow evening, from 6 until 9 PM. Knowing Fremont, it is probably more like 9-ish.

The event gets it name from, well, it happens on the First Friday of the month. And that is tomorrow.
