brave new victrola opens on pike

Victrola2

The darling coffeehouse of Fifteenth Avenue (East) finally has that little sibling that it’s always wanted. [ed: isn't it weird to anthropomorphize a cafe in allowing it a family member, but not giving either a gender -- yes, maybe. but how do you tell the sex of a shop?] After a lot of buzz, and a tiny bit of attempted scandalmongering, Pike/Piners can get their Victrola fix without a trek up the hill.

The store had a quiet opening on Thursday and by the weekend they were keeping full day hours. Unlike the cozily well-worn setting of the near fancypantsed original location (at present, there’s only one sofa to be found and the furniture looks new), the new space is all high ceilings, reproduction hanging art deco fixtures, and windows. The sheer amount of glass makes rotating art shows unlikely. Instead patrons will have views of the not-yet-installed roasting room and the foot traffic on Pike. Given the cross-street neighbors, that could provide plenty of intrigue.

In addition to the onsite roasting, the usual well-stocked bakery case, and familiar baristas, Victrola 2 is also home to a spacious and well-appointed public tasting room where the cafe’s popular samplings will now be held. The store’s at 310 Pike; drop in to say hello the next time you’re in the neighborhood and unable to find a seat at Bauhaus.
