Bergen Place in Ballard

Interesting article in the Seattle P-I this weekend about the past and future of Bergen Place in Ballard. Always an eclectic mix of representational and abstract — if not surreal — imagery, the park has changed its face recently, and some say not for the better.

In addition to the canvas canopy being removed to let more light into the park, the the mural showing the history of Seattle Scandianvian-Americans was removed due to maintenance of the underlying wall. Whether these changes will be temporary or permanent may depend on whether the community wants a park that focuses on one part of the neighborhood’s heritage…
