More Microsoft News
A little birdie just confirmed that tomorrow Microsoft will begin lay-offs. Over the past 12 months, hiring has been cut by over 80%. Some recruiting groups have gone from more than 150 active positions to less than 20, but attrition is no longer enough to compensate for the weak economic climate. I won’t even speculate on the possible affects of this. I’m sure the dailies will be more than willing to do so, over the coming weeks.
These are tough times, people, tough times… I can’t even summon up some ex-MicroSerf shadenfreude.

I’ve been sitting on this for a few days (and will not reveal all that I know by request) but tomorrow won’t be the official start of layoffs, but rather a company-wide meeting to inform the employees (including management, blue badges, contractors, and vendors) what the state of the company is, the predicted future, and the next phases that will be implemented. The rumors of layoffs are not exactly well-founded, at least not for permanent employees. That’s all I can say at this time.
Also, the meeting/announcement will be Friday, not tomorrow.
My source is obviously not your source, so I cannot confirm your comments. My source will be issuing pink slips tomorrow. Sorry.
Ah I figured out the difference in info. The Townhall meeting scheduled for Friday (9am) vs the announcement today. There’s new info to update too if you want to continue the story.
Josh has already posted about it.
