Early this year, Starbucks rolled out its latest experiment in caffeine addiction with the time-honored dealer’s techniques: the first taste’s on them, followed by a month of afternoon discounts, and winding up in a back alley of regular priced hopeless dependency. “TeaTime” involves tea lattes (tea, frothy milk, and secret herbs and spices) and tea infusions (tea mixed with steamy cider or juice). So far, I’ve only sampled the lavendery vanilla London Fog version and can report that it was oddly delicious enough for me to return for a second taste.

I tried the London Fog on a whim and then when I got it said, "Oh, yeah, Earl Grayish. I don’t like Earl Gray". And, yet, I liked it. I said that I wouldn’t have another but I impulsively ordered another one today (possibly because I’ve never learned how to pronounce rooibois) and, wow, I actully think I will keep drinking this. At least until they take it away, leaving me heartbroken and bereft, like when they took away the honey latte.
I’ve had both the apple chai and the berry chai. I suggest refusing to allow the barista to talk you into ordering the berry when you really want the apple as the apple is vastly superior to the berry.
along with the weird name (roy-boss) Rooibois has the disadvantage of being caffeine-free; so I wasn’t tempted. But the apple one does a lot better than the other juice.
Try the Vanilla Rooibos iced… highly recommended.
