Man Sets Himself On Fire At The UW *UPDATED&
I’m even on campus and didn’t hear about this until I checked online. A 61-year old man apparently doused himself in gasoline and lit himself on fire in the middle of the UW’s Red Square. Bystanders grabbed jackets and fire extinguishers to put out the flames, and the man has been taken to the hospital for severe burns. Let’s hope he’s ok.

In an email from Eric S. Godfrey, Vice Provost for Student Life, we now know that the victim was a former UW employee who has passed away from his injuries. There is still no motive or cause yet disclosed for the fire.
I just got the alert about that too. How awful :( I really hope he’s okay. :(
You got alerts? It’s nearly six hours later and I still haven’t received any message from UW.
Nada. No official alerts, just an email sent to the students. I can fwd if you would like to see it, but it mainly consists of ways students can seek counseling.
I didn’t get an alert either, but my coworkers did and passed it along. I hadn’t signed up for anything except the campus-wide e-mails. Now I’m getting the text messages too. I imagine I’ll get some kind of e-mail tomorrow, since I’m registered as a student.
