Seattle Ranks #16

Of the 30 best cities in the US for tech jobs, Seattle comes in at #16.

Jobs per 1,000: 90.74

Total: 127,680

Rank: 9

Growth: 7%

Average wage: $96,197

Salary Rank: 5

Biggest sector: software publishers

Area employers: Microsoft (MSFT), T-Mobile USA (DT)

Check out the entire list here. I’m surprised and yet not surprised that Seattle ranked in the middle. Luckily, Seattle’s tech industry has been overall surviving the economic struggles as of late, with a few exceptions.

I’m a little surprised too. How do you think the startups will fare?

I believe people have learned since the dot com bust to have patience and test the waters more before investing in a start-up. If there is a backlash on startups due to a failing economy, it couldn’t be worse than the decline of dot com businesses 6-8 or so years ago. As with any new business, many of them won’t survive the first year. During times like these, that number will increase slightly, but I still think Seattle (and the tech industry in general) will be cushioned from catastrophe.

I am not a student of economics and I tend to overestimate the positive side of things.
