Today, the city council is scheduled to take action on a motion (held over from last week’s meeting) to simplify the process of getting permits for “sidewalk cafes.” All in favor? AYE!

Also on the agenda:
* a loan to rehab the Bush Hotel (409 Maynard Ave. S.);
* several amendments to the Seattle Criminal & Municipal codes, to align with State Law, including stalking, harassment, cyberstalking, “good Samaritan” actions, restraining orders, littering, etc.;
* budgets for the first few neighborhoods with neighborhood plans under review, i.e. the three with light rail stations, & establishing the Neighborhood Plan Advisory committee;
* possible legislation restricting really big houses on teeny-tiny lots (you know who you are!);
* a couple of appointments to the Pioneer Square Preservation board;
* partial funding for a new low-income dental clinic in the International district;
…et cetera.

9:30 AM is the council briefing; the full council meeting is at 2:00 PM today. Watch (or listen) to the action at Council Live!

    Does this scare anyone else? The City of Seattle is spending $3M to relocate a private company from the Denny triangle to the international district? What?

    The ACL loan hasn’t been approved yet, and is not the same project as the Bush Hotel renovation.

    The $3M for ACL is a proposed loan; about $750K or so over that is a federal BEDI grant, which doesn’t come out of city coffers, at all.

    ACL is a private company, but their presence in the area attracts investment from the film and television industry, which pumps a lot of money into the local economy without burdening our long-term city infrastructure and services. Not only will the loan need to be paid back with interest, which benefits the city, but the city will also keep a highly valuable local business. It’s really a win-win, and will probably be passed, once actually proposed, but we’re not there, yet.
