treat reciepts are the new ghetto lattes?

Is anyone else getting these “treat reciepts” at their friendly neighborhood Starbucks stores? This morning, when I was running late and the Vivace line was too long* I got this stamped receipt as an incentive to come back later for an afternoon $2 iced beverage.

* With that compulsory excuse out of the way, lately I’ve been thinking that Starbucks is kind of like Congress, especially after the list of downsized stores was announced: low approval ratings in aggregate, but high approval ratings in particular.

Actually yes - I get a big kick out of my treat receipt! I frequent a new ghetto drive through Starbux near home in the AM and order the cheapest drink on the menu then use my treat receipt after work for a grande Frapuccino that I would never normally order cuz they cost about as much as I pay for lunch. And you don’t have to use the same store - I got treated in Bellevue, too!

You know what’s crazy? I got this same sort of offer today (Saturday) in Taipei, in Taiwan. I was confused about why I needed the receipt to get a discount (receipts in Taiwan are a sort of lottery ticket). My Chinese is only so-so.

I got one of these in Kirkland a couple weekends ago when my parents were in town. Thought it was weird, and didn’t wind up following up on the offer.
