Fresh Tayberry and Peach Ice Cream

Tayberry Ice Cream

I found tayberries and peaches at the Broadway Farmer’s Market over the weekend and decided to make ice cream in a bag with it. This simple recipe only takes 10 minutes and is great for kids or late night cravings.

Ingredients/Supplies:
~1 tablespoon sugar
~1/2 cup milk or half & half
~1/4 teaspoon vanilla
~1/2 cup tayberries
~1/2 peach, chopped
~6 tablespoons rock salt
~1 pint-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)
~1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag
~Ice cubes

Tayberries

1. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
2. Put milk, vanilla, sugar, berries, and peach into the small bag, and seal it.
3. Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.

Shake it

4. Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.
5. Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully. Enjoy!

Almost there

Each bag makes about 1 large scoop of ice cream, so you can double or even triple the servings by adding additional bags. A sandwich bag is the perfect size for each serving.

Done!

There are a dozen types of berries and other fruit appearing at farmer’s markets all over the Seattle region. The basic recipe will work well for anything you’re craving.
