Learn to park!

Cars

Is it just me, or have more people forgotten how to park recently? Here are a few rules and polite suggestions for those parking vehicles (including scooters):

1) Do not block sidewalks or driveways. End of story.
2) Do not take up more than one space. This includes street parking (see two examples in the photo) and parking lots. If your vehicle is too big for one spot, downsize to a smaller vehicle.
3) Park closer to the curb, not out in the street.
4) If the sign says “No Parking Within 30 Feet”, don’t park there.
5) Do not move scooters to fit into a spot.
6) If parking a scooter, don’t cram into a gap between two cars. The cars need that gap to get out of the spot.

There is likely a lot more for this list, but I’ve said enough for now. Common sense: use it.

I think there needs to be shirts and posters and bumper stickers w/ "Common Sense: Use It!" on them. Love it.

And I totally agree with all of the above. People are really inconsiderate a lot of the time.

I just had a similar rant the other day! http://theworldisfun.wordpress.com/2008/06/20/i-forgot-to-tell-you-about-this-idiot/
    What’s gotten into people?

Regarding #1, do not block driveways… Don’t even block your own driveway; you’ll get a ticket. Yeah, yeah, I know, but…

In Los Angeles we call them "Parking Tards" and blog about them often.

touch my scooter and I’ll cut you…this is Seattle-one time I parked my car behind a couple of motorbikes one day and then went to my car the next day - the bikes were gone and some left a passive agressive note that I didn’t know how to park - like I’m supposed to check every minute to see if those biked moved I should move my car accordingly- F-u! this was Capitol Hill on Summit - those cars above are R-Tards

My eyes aren’t what they used to be. What’s the problem with upper left and lower right?

They are taking up two spaces.

Hurm. Without lines actually being painted, I’d argue that, and not just because I drive a smart car, for two reasons:
    a) I think you could still fit a car in front of and behind the one on the bottom, and the one on the top looks like it could fit a car in front of it.
    b) One reason why it’s hard to complain about people parking stupid: You have no way of knowing what was there before. There could have been two motorcycles behind the car on top.

You have a point, but it’s mostly the camera angle and the fact that I was using a cell phone camera. It’s a spot next to my apartment building and there is room for two compact cars, that’s it. The two cars pictured above took position in the middle of the stretch of pavement, making it impossible for another car to park there without blocking driveways.
