Urban Spoon @ Artemis

Last night, I had the pleasure of meeting the folks from Urban Spoon at the wonderful Artemis Cafe. The Urban Spooners hosted a meet-and-greet style event and ended up with a crowd of about 30 local resident bloggers. Definitely keep your eye on Urban Spoon. I spoke with Adam and Patrick about the site and it sounds like a great resource for finding new places to eat. With my introduction to Artemis, they are off to a great start.

Semolina cake with taleggio cheese sauce & fried sage – $10
Artemis is one of those little cafes that would be great for a date or small party. It’s modernly cozy with a seasonal menu and a great drink list. I only tried the house red wine but was pretty pleased with the quality. The food was amazing. The Semolina cake above was an instant favorite, highly recommended by Seadevi at Capitol Hill Triangle. I saw no less than 5 of these pass through the crowd.

Slow roasted pork belly with spring greens and citrus – $15
I also sampled the pork belly and while normally not something I would taste (I dislike the mouth-feel of solid fats), it was also wonderfully crisp and not overly salty like I feared it would be.

Seared sea scallops with brown butter & chives – $15

Braised greens – $6
I am definitely heading back to Artemis Cafe with my husband and maybe a few friends. The staff was very pleasant, the place was clean, filled with natural light, and had fantastic food.

That semolina cake looks super tasty!
I’m going to have to go give it a try. Yum!
It was amazing. Light, not as dense or as gritty as polenta but still very flavorful and paired perfectly with the cheese sauce. I could eat them morning, noon, and night.

Artemis is better with the new chef, but the two times I’ve been there for dinner I was left underwhelmed. And they REALLY need to step up the dessert menu.
