Weekend Film Agenda May 2

  • Northwest Folklife and SIFF Cinema co-present the City Folk Film Series, four films that explore artistic expression in urban communities around the US, all followed by artist-led post-film discussions.
  • You know how some films are really funny the first few times you see them and then get boring over time with repeated viewings and those annoying people who insist on quoting choice lines out of context until you just can’t take it any more?  Young Frankenstein, playing at Central Cinema, is not one of those films.  Sure, you’ve seen it a dozen times on cable, but, trust me, there may be no better film to see out in public with a group of people enjoying pizza and beer.
  • “Best Bette” continues at the Grand Illusion with the classic creepy thriller Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte.  Don’t be surprised to find yourself looking over your shoulder as you leave the theater in the dark.  Also at the Grand Illusion is the Seattle premiere of Maikohaaaaan!!!, a slapstick comedy set in the world of the apprentice Geisha.
  • Midnight at the Egyptian features Blade Runner:  The Final Cut, the definitive version of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi noir classic film that includes extended scenes and never-before-seen special effects.
  • NWFF screens Love Songs, a French musical about love and loss in contemporary France and Dick Tracy, the 1990 film adaptation of the long-running comic strip, starring Warren Beatty and Madonna.
