@ryanhealy:

We are the local media. It was a bit scary, that situation. The sword swung, *Whack* against the sidewalk, again, *whack*.

Did we manage to report on something before they did? Oh it didn't involve sports, condos, or traffic.

I live at 6th and Pine and constantly lately Ive been seeing gang members and westlake gutter punks having near-brawls with each other. Never seen actual fights though. I hope they destroy each other and people will reclaim their city. Or, oh I dont know, the police can help. Man Im in a bad mood today haha

This, from a work friend's e-mail this morning (we work in the City Centre building - she used to be a trama nurse in Houston):

I walked out in the middle of the ordeal (about 5:50 p.m. bright daylight). If the guy with the brown bat connected with someone's head, they are in sad shape today or dead. I literally ran away to the park in front of Sees Candy where there was a police on a horsie. Excitedly, I told him they needed help and to hurry. He said already dispatched, while he continued his casual conversation with a lady. I kept at him and he finally said he could not leave his horsie. I did not want the horsie to get hurt but I at least hoped he'd go and peek around the corner and show some interest. I found it frightful!

Afterwards I was worried that the" gang members" HAD TO BE A GANG, would remember my face so I have been wearing my hood in fear that they know I sent the police. WHEW!!

I was there - around 6:00 last night right on the sidewalk approaching the mob (walking down to the market) at the City Centre Building across from Banana republic. There seemed to be a LOT of them, perhaps 20 - 30?, screaming and posturing at first, like wesa said. And all of the sudden there were small skirmishes of groups running in and kicking and hitting each other. Saw the guy with the street "no parking" barricade hitting someone else with it and threatening many others. There were bats and several other personal weapons that were coming out of pockets - it was really a blur. I was able to pass through between skirmishes and called the SPD, and I saw several people on their cells doing the same. Amazing, a very large street fight right in the shopping/business core of downtown Seattle that went on for at least five minutes and NO SPD anywhere.
