Have you seen the new ad campaign for McDonald’s? It’s direct poke at Starbucks in an attempt to shake things up. Interesting timing, as Starbucks is phasing out their line of breakfast sandwiches.

    McDonald’s selling espresso is probably the best thing to happen to Starbucks in a long time.

    1. It appears to have had the effect of re-focusing Starbucks on the quality of their coffee.
    2. It automatically makes null any arguments suggesting Starbucks is the McDonald’s of the espresso world. Now, McDonald’s is the McDonald’s of the espresso world. This magically alters (and elevates) their perception in the eyes of consumers. Carrying around a Starbucks cup doesn’t seem so bourgeois anymore.

    I saw an amazing commercial for the mclatte last night. The basic premise was: stop pretending to be intelligent / care about culture / have interesting conversations: just get yourself a mclatte and be your own dumb self.

    I can’t find it on youtube yet…

    Personally, I think the slogan should read "Four Bucks is McDumb", just sayin’.
