radiohead, coming to "seattle" on 20 August with Liars. Who has a pre-sale password?!
I adore Radiohead, but today’s announcement that their “Seattle” tour stop is at the White River Amphitheater on 20 August is more than a little bit disappointing [pitchfork]. This, from an interview between Thom Yorke and David Byrne last year:
Yorke: … at the moment we make money principally from touring. Which is hard for me to reconcile because I don’t like all the energy consumption, the travel. It’s an ecological disaster, traveling, touring.
Byrne: Well, there are the biodiesel buses and all that.
Yorke: Yeah, it depends where you get your biodiesel from. There are ways to minimize it. We did one of those carbon footprint things recently where they assessed the last period of touring we did and tried to work out where the biggest problems were. And it was obviously everybody traveling to the shows.
Byrne: Oh, you mean the audience.
Yorke: Yeah. Especially in the US. Everybody drives. So how the hell are we going to address that? The idea is that we play in municipal places with some transport system alternative to cars. And minimize flying equipment, shipping everything. We can’t be shipped, though. [wired]
I’ll be seeing them twice at All Points West (admittedly, making this trip will leave a much bigger carbon footprint than the 40 mile drive to Auburn along congested two-lane roads so I should stop whining.); so I don’t know that I’ll be queuing up for tickets when the pre-sale starts on 9 April. I haven’t seen anything about ticket pricing, but I’m guessing that it won’t be along the In Rainbows “pay what you like (no, really!)” model. update: tickets will run between $35 and $55 before fees, taxes, and other sundry charges. [livenation]
Maybe they can pull off something cool like Coachella is doing — including free train tickets for campers going from LA to Indio to mitigate some of the frustrating traffic.
Oh, and the rumors about Grizzly Bear opening were only half true. They’re opening on the first part of the tour; West Coasters will have the pleasure of seeing Liars instead.

I’m going to guess that Thom doesn’t get much say in the venues then, or perhaps didn’t realize how far out the location is from Seattle. Then again, didn’t they play the same venue a few years ago?
Hell, why not drive down to Auburn in your huge SUV and hit the Buffet at the Casino before the show, like a real Radiohead fan would!
(sorry, that may not as funny to you as it is to me)
anyway,
The presale starts Thursday at 10am and for the general public tickets go on sale Saturday at 10am . This show will sell out quickly. To get in on the presale you need a password.
The White River Amphitheater Gouges you on parking so there is an economic incentive, not to drive your own car. Maybe, that is what Thom meant?
I saw the password on this site’s front page, it’s right there for free.
