Pike Place Market. A new condo?
It has come to our attention, on Seattle metblogs, that there are plans to tear down the West (?) side of Pike Place Market (where the big sign is) and make a brand new condo.
Plans to let this out in the open? Sources say no one’s talking until early 2009, but that a big name (Allen?) is behind all of this. And that if all goes terribly wrong, the Pike Place Market sign and 5 blocks to the left will be a fancy schmacy building for rich people come 2011.
National Landmark it may be. But apparently money talks, and history could walk.
The condo/hotel will supposedly feature 24-hour concierge service, room service for hotel rooms and condos, indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, heat censored light activated rooms, no fog mirrors, it’s own radio station, organics only grocery store, luxury spa services, baby-sitters, dog-sitters, a pre-school and on hand personal trainers.
Apparently, Pike Place Market has been suffering for quite some time now. Last year, they asked for $80 million dollars to fix a roof or two. And because of the plummeting economy, out-of-towners aren’t buying any fish that’s been thrown these days.
Stay tuned.
