Closure

Jack Power

According to the LiveJournal Rumor Mill, Jack in the Box on Broadway has closed. While I live fairly close, I am unable to hobble over on my crutches to verify it’s demise. I’m going to assume that it’s true though. I believe Sound Transit is tearing down that location to put in a Light Rail station, slated to start in September if memory serves me correctly. Twice Sold Tales is moving to a location on the other side of Broadway. Many of the other businesses are still trying to secure new locations.

Personally, I’m glad that the Jack in the Box hasn’t earned Historical Landmark status.

I need an update on the Piroshky place ASAP. Once that goes, so goes everything good about Seattle.

You may want to procure a new job, home and the moving van right now then: it appears the whole block’s going.

So, Capitol Hill will experience a net loss of a fast food franchise? That seems like progress.

The Piroshky Situation is killing me, though.

    (Nice yellow icon, Josh.)

Thanks for the link to livejournal. People there are even more snarky and rude than on the SLOG. Now I remember why I don’t use it anymore :D

Aw, it’s a different kind of snark on Seattle! I avoid the Slog…can’t handle how they twist the knife after you’re already down.

Jack in the Box - GREAT ads on TV but it just doesn’t translate to the restaurant. I avoid. And I’m never exactly sure why. THeres just something about it. Find me at Dick’s, MC’ds, etc. And more and more, eating carrots at Whole Foods adn not granola crunching

Three words, james, will explain that problem: cheap immigrant labor. If your ads have a culturally clever bent, but your workers don’t possess a fluent understanding of said culture, then the attempt at a corporate image just doesn’t work.

You could argue that for Chipotle and McDonalds as well, but they are 10,000 miles away in quality, menu design, cleanliness, etc. And there is an "x" factor involved as well. What I mean by that? There is just ’something’ about jack in the box that doesn’t translate very well, at lease in there stores up here. I’m not so sure what that is. Perhaps its the mish mash menu - tacos and sourdough sandwiches. LIke notes that don’t resonate. It seems even more unhealthy than the other options as well, which I’m not sure what thats all about either.
Chipotle pulls this off really, really well. Great customer service, interaction, engagement, music - you can tell they are happy, on balance with the environment they work in etc.
