Pet Supplies @ Mud Bay

I love Mud Bay. This locally-owned company provides pet supplies for cats and dogs that are natural and healthy, so you don’t have to worry about what you are giving your little guys.

I started shopping at Mud Bay after we acquired our cat. Her needs are simple: catnip, dry food, and laser pointer. Since bringing home a puppy 2 months ago, I’ve been frequenting both Capitol Hill locations a lot more often. If I have any questions, the staff at Mud Bay are more than happy to give me ideas. If someone doesn’t work for us, they easily take returns without question.

I started taking the puppy to Seattle Dogworks for obedience classes. They recommended a few items that Mud Bay actually carries including the Buster FoodCube pictured above. Place a handful of kibble or treats in the cube and the dog has to work to get them out. This cube (and others) keeps my puppy occupied for 45 minutes or longer, advantageous when I am trying to finish a homework assignment or study for midterms.

I wanted to recommend this company to others in the region who have pets. Besides toys, Mud Bay carries a good selection of baked bones, natural treats (with an ingredient list that you can read), kits to grow your own catnip or wheat grass, and safer versions of shampoos, tick/flea remedies, and supplements.

There are a lot of locally-owned pet supply stores in our area, but I haven’t visited many others besides The Feed Bag (also on Capitol Hill). Any personal recommendations?

Mud Bay on Thomas near Broadway is awesome. The people who work there have to be some of the friendliest people in retail in Seattle. I’m always happy when my dog runs out of food or needs another toy because I get to make the trek over there. Seriously.

(How’s that for some ham-fisted shilling?)

I have to put in an endorsement for Great Dog in Northgate (www.gogreatdog.com). They provide daycare, training, pet supplies, grooming and overnight care. Also a locally owned business and instrumental in getting the City of Seattle to update its zoning laws to account for doggie daycares.

+1 for Mud Bay. I’d been going to the one in the UVillage for quite a while to get The World’s Best Cat Litter (it really is) until I moved closer to Greenwood.

Now that we’ve got a puppy on the way we discovered that the breeder gets the food (Eagle Pack) she feeds her dogs from Mud Bay because it’s natural and people grade food.

Also, if you’re looking for a decent place to get supplies online, try http://www.petedge.com. I’ll certainly go local for food and the occasional toy but for the price of one toy retail you can get a sack of em shipped to you. If you’ve got a chewy puppy that can mean quite a bit of scrilla saved.

I like Mud Bay a lot and I also like the Crown Hill Pet Supply on Holman Road. http://www.crownhillpet.com/

They carry California Natural brand food, which my kitty loves and is surprisingly affordable compared to Wellness, which is the other brand I feed her. They have a great selection of treats, too, especially dog treats.

Mud Bay is awesome! I like that they give out free samples, they work great for treats! I would suggest just about any of the local small pet stores. They all seem super friendly and knowledgeable. Manny the Dog and I go to Urban Beast in South Lake Union (right across from REI) whenever we are in the area, otherwise it’s a small local place here in Woodinville that I can’t remember the name of.
