Where will we find great chocolate milk?
Wilcox Family Farms is closing it’s Roy, Washington dairy facility, laying off 1/3 of their work force (roughly 130 employees) and ceasing dairy distribution in Western Washington as of March, 2008. The company cites the increasing cost of doing business in the dairy industry.
Wilcox Family Farms plans to expand it’s organic, cage-free egg line. The farm celebrates 100 years of operation next year.
I’m saddened by the news. My husband and I strive to find local, organic dairy products and while we usually find a good selection at Madison Market, we enjoyed Wilcox chocolate milk after a good workout. Wilcox explains that the reason for shutting down: “dairy processing has become dominated by large businesses and has not been a profitable venture…” Support our local farmers. They care more for the community than the large corporations.

I could be wrong, and this won’t really solve your problem weekly, but I believe that Sea Breeze Farms (at the Udistrict and Ballard farmers markets) occasionally has chocolate milk.
Based on their philosophy and products, they are one of my very favorite farmers market vendors.
WA milk prices are already among the highest in the country - I wonder how this will affect them?
