Top Pot USA

No longer will Downtown, Capitol Hill and Wedgwood (of all places) have a monopoly on glazed goodness — Seattle’s Top Pot Doughnuts has announced plans to open nationwide, thanks to its partner Starbucks. Just a day after that company canceled its controversial breakfast sandwiches (which your correspondent loved and did not think detracted from the atmosphere), CEO-anew Schultz announced plans to carry Top Pot’s products nation-wide. Ironically, many thought that the coffee chain would move towards more-healthy options after the sausage-and-egg sandwiches, which apple fritters — no matter how delicious they may be — are certainly not.

Have you had Top Pot doughnuts? I had one this morning via Bauhaus. Tasty goodness! These are great if you keep them as "treats" for once in a while fun. Every day…not good. I would also imagine that these doughnuts aren’t as bad for you as the full-of-preservatives/tasteless breakfast sandwiches that Starbucks used to carry.

I thought the breakfast sandwiches weren’t bad at all. While I do have a fondness for a Sausage McMuffin with egg, I thought that the Starbucks stuff was better quality.

Wesa, you are much too adult to eat donuts with your responsible talk of eating them for "once in a while fun". A pox on you and your responsible diet! I will make the move to irresponsibility once I can get my daily fix of Top Pot.

    Who’s with me!?

I was surprised to see Top Pot doughnuts at a Starbucks in the Philly suburbs early this week. I was going to ask about it when I got home, but question answered :-)

don’t F with the ‘wood! Our Top Pot rules.

Interesting tidbit - Top Pot donuts freeze surprisingly well. So next time you buy a dozen and are feeling all full of lard/guilt pop the leftovers in the freezer.

Hey Eric — I’m a Wedgwoodite myself! It’s been great to see the neighborhood find a voice, I suppose mainly around the issues of development on 35th Ave. One thing that struck me about the area when I bought (2004) was how much of a time capsule it seemed, even in relation to other nearby areas. I guess we’ll see how much changes and how much stays the same in the next few years…
