Blarch Badness 2008: The Brackets
Posted By Dylan On January 31, 2008 @ 12:00 pm In tournament | Comments Disabled

So, the selection committee has met for the last few days trying to decide who is in and who is out of the tournament. There was the usual yelling, fighting, chair-throwing, and occasional moments of harmony. But finally, late last night, the committee emerged from their pizza-and-beer-induced stupor to put in my hands the lineup for this year’s Blarch Badness.
First off, the eight blogs that will be seeded in the bracket. Four of them, as mentioned before, were semifinalists last year and therefore have been awarded byes into round two:
USS Mariner [1]
Lookout Landing [2]
West Seattle Blog [3]
Seattle Daily Photo [4]
Four additional blogs were chosen by the Seattle Metblogs writers as being sufficiently meritorious to earn a bye (that is, their bribe checks cleared):
Capitol Hill Seattle [5]
Defective Yeti [6]
Hillku [7]
Vintage Seattle [8]
The two “regions” have been dubbed “Coyote” and “Squirrel.” (thanks Michael)
The remaining 42 blogs will be playing in out of category-specific groups:
Religion/Politics/Great Pumpkin (i.e. the environment), Music, P-I bloggers, Food, People, Art/Fashion/Photography, Hood (neighborhood blogs), Friends/Enemies of Metblogs
You might notice that the “Sports” group has been replaced with “People.” Don’t worry, there are still sports blogs in the tourney.
The winner of each group moves into the bracket in Round Two. I know this is complicated, but bear with me. Here’s how Round Two looks:
Squirrel Bracket

Vintage Seattle vs. Food winner
Lookout Landing vs. Music winner

Each round will be open for one week, just like last year.
Unfortunately, a number of blogs didn’t make the final cut. Sorry Buzzworthy, Postman on Politics, Slumberland, all the Seattle Weekly blogs, all the Seattle Magazine blogs (but surely you could have voted us best of something this year, I mean, come on, you pretty much named everyone else I’ve listed best of something), Daily Score, Daily Grist (though, honestly, if you’d hired me for that job I interviewed for last fall…), Gothic Charm School, Rain City Guide, Radical Congruency, Scootin’ Old Skool, Sound Politics, Sonics bloggers, Rise and Fall of Mark Driscoll, those MyZIP blogs like 98122.net, and all the Livejournalers and Voxers that live in Seattle. Maybe next year. Or maybe someone will offer a Blog NIT?
So there you have it. That’s the six weeks of hellfun that’s ahead of us! I’ll take any questions you have in the comments.
