mybus on iphone

Carolyn has already expounded on the joys of MyBus; so I will spare you the sermon on the joys of knowing just how late your bus will be (provided that you’re the sort of person who finds this reassuring). Like much of the web MyBus works nicely on iPhone, but it requires a bit of zooming and scrolling. Sofiane Hassaine, a local software programmer, has taken the website and wrapped it up in an attractive iPhone-friendly package. [sofianehassaine.com/iPhone/BusTracker]

While I wish that this application had a way to bookmark regular stops, it’s great to have all of the information readily accessible. Has anyone else discovered mobile-friendly transit resources? I’d love to see a simple route-planner, too.

I’m still not sure that I could stomach switching from TMobile to AT&T just for the iPhone, but this is a compelling argument to get one. *sighs*

You can bookmark your regular stops on your iPhone using Metro’s real time bus tracker: http://tracker-loc.metrokc.gov/

Put in your route number, then select the intersection you want. Bookmark the resulting page. I keep my regular stops bookmarked under my iPhone bookmarks for easy access.

More importantly (for me, anyway) this will also work with the iPod Touch.

Between this and our new ability to do maps and mail, it’s a good week to be a, um, Touchy.

Damn, that is the only thing so far that has made me want an iPhone. I think spotbus would work pretty well on cell phones, but I haven’t tried it out.

Yup, works like a charm on my Blackberry.

Shannon: I have a bunch of my stops bookmarked for mybus, I just really like the presentation of the bustracker (since I don’t have to zoom and scroll so much). Not sure if the tradeoff of scrolling through the huge list of stops makes it worthwhile though.

Kristin: Spotbus works nicely (I like that you can save locations) with iPhone, too, but I really wish there was something with pretty iphone style presentation. Preferably something that integrates with the address book or google maps, since I’m being all demanding.

With the iPhone software 1.1.3 you can actually “bookmark” the stops with this website. What you do is navigate to your favorite bus-stop, then use the bookmark function and choose “add to home screen” button. This will create a button on your home screen and most importantly it will remember the stop information that you selected.

I call this one a win!

Unfortunately, I don’t think that the bookmarks for individual stops are persistent with Sofaine Hassaine’s site. Whenever I bookmark multiple stops to the home screen, they all return to my last viewed stop…

I have been using the mybus site for years with my Sidekick(s). It’s very readable (especially the “palm” version. You don’t have to get an iPhone just to get a decent version of mybus while on the move.
