putting 2007 to bed, our highlights and lowlights of last year

Now the we’ve gotten over our hangovers and tried 2008 on for size, it’s time to let go of 2007. Being the sort of person obsessed with encapsulating the prior year with lists, I cajoled some of the Metroblogging Seattle crew to share their parting thoughts on the best and worst things about Seattle in 2007 as well as their goals for the city and themselves for 2008. Below is the table of our memories, hopes, and dreams.

favorite thing(s) about 2007 the worst dreams for 2008
Ryan Daft Punk at WaMu

Expensive, unnecessary, pointless, slow, and infuriating: the South Lake Union Streetcar Self: Explore more urban parks
Seattle: Affordable housing, affordable housing, affordable housing
Kristen Remedy Teas Viaduct debate

the death of the Croc

more tea, less viaduct
Dylan Tilth the Viaduct debacle
the Mariners’ August implosion
Self: Find a decent chicken fried steak in this town.
Seattle: Chick-Fil-A
Samantha Party at the Belmont Death of the Crocodile/Bus Stop/Pony/Cafe Unamerican No ridiculous nightlife ordinances
Jeanna sayonara trans fats! Hasselbeck declaring Prez. Bush an honorary Seahawk. Self: try one new restaurant a month
Seattle: breakfast delivery
Carolyn MyBus; the Cheese Nun at the Cheese Festival this year (made me want to get a PhD in CHEESE, too) the stupid bru-ha-ha over the Alki Statue of Liberty Self: Post more & make more cheese
Seattle: how about some non-bus mass transit?
Shawn Emerging trend to mourn unique buildings doomed to become just another condo (Belmont, Bridge Motel) Lack of any real mass transit solution Self: Take even more photos (yeah, you SHOULD be scared)
Seattle: How about less hit-and-runs?
Josh McLeod Residence; Capitol Hill’s center of gravity survived , recalibrating with a shift a few blocks south and east (including the delightful Cafe Presse); LCD Soundsystem at the Showbox. the Crocodile closed. Something great.

Now it’s your turn: let us know what you loved and hated about 2007 and what you’d like to see in 2008.

Loved: Smith on 15th. Hated: Continued condofication of Capitol Hill. I’d like to see more locally owned businesses take over the spaces of the corporate companies.

When a riotgrrl talks, you should probably listen.

OK, I’ll check it out and post about it in the very near future.
