Christine Gregoire hates the viaduct even more than you do. But unlike the rest of us, she might end up with the power to tear the whole goddamn thing down. All by herself, if necessary:

It’s coming down in 2012. I’m taking it down — the middle. … That’s the timeline. I’m not going to fudge on it. And if we don’t have some alternative by then, boy are we going to have a mess on our hands because it’s coming down. … Yeah, watch me. [p-i]

Aside from a demolition campaign promise the bigger story, though, might be state’s interest in the surface option as a way of making Seattle a “user-friendly, international city” without “two way traffic” or “street parking downtown”.

    Is it wrong that now I sort of want her to lose so that I can see her out there by herself in 2012 with a sledgehammer?
