  • Let’s face it. It would have been practically impossible for Band of Horses to live up to the high expectations they set for themselves with last year’s spectacular debut Everything All The Time. With that in mind, it’s all the more remarkable that sophomore effort Cease to Begin hardly slumps at all. There’s all of the melancholy rumination, just a little less soaring, a little more relaxed, possibly a reflection that they move to South Carolina is treating Bridwell and company well. Tonight, they return to Seattle the first of two nights in this, their onetime hometown. I fear that if they keep selling out the Showbox so quickly, our days of seeing them in intimate mid-sized venues might soon become a thing of the past. With Australian rock the Drones (”The Birthday Party kick the shit out of Neil Young in Hendrix’ garage” [wiki]), Tyler Ramsey. [showbox]
