A Rare Glance to the South

Today a new 185,000 square foot Cabela’s superstore opens in Lacey [cabela's, tnt]. Cabela’s is to REI what Linda’s is to Smith. Whereas REI is about enjoying and communing with the outdoors (while being stylish and comfortable), Cabela’s is about dominating the outdoors and killing as many non-human things as possible (while being stylish and comfortable).

Oh, and to put 185,000 square feet into perspective, the Costco on 4th Ave is 158,000 square feet.

In other news, Tacoma is frenzied over the announcement that Celine Dion will play the Tacoma Dome in October of 2008. The [actually excellent] TNT blog, Grit City, is giving away tickets [g-c] and shares the video below [g-c] in some of the most thinly veiled sadism I can recall.

I know exactly what I’m going to be thankful for next Thursday.

Update: And we have a “winner” [g-c].

And they say I’m snarky and curmudgeonly.
