social molecularization, dodgeball, and you

Dodgeball vs. the Seattle nIce? A quote from one of Seattle’s top Dodgeball users of 2006 is included in “Mobile Social Networks and Social Practice: A Case Study of Dodgeball” by Lee Humphreys from this month’s Journal of Computer Mediated Communication:

It makes the social scene of Seattle feel a little smaller and a little looser. It’s not really. I guess it was a tight knit going-out group and now it’s loose. We are just people going from bar to bar, restaurant to restaurant. We like each other. It’s hard to know if you’re friends or not. Like you see each other and you like hanging out with each other, but you might not ever talk on the phone or know each other’s email address or anything, but you’re friends. So it’s different.
