If, by now, you haven’t already carved out a special place in your heart for Grand Archives and their multi-part harmonies, their quiet openings that blossom into triumphant interlocking rhythmic rounds, and that four-song EP that came out this spring and kept you following them around all summer just to hear new songs, then I don’t really know what else to say here.

Instead, I’ll just point out a few highlights from seeing them open for Minus the Bear on Saturday at the Showbox. First, the songs sounding even tighter and more lush than ever. Second, as much as I wish they could have played longer, it was nice that their set was short only because of limited time and not because of limited material. That is, the new songs that were skeletal this summer have been fleshed out and seem ready for highlight number three: their announcement that a full-length album is slated for February 2008 release. Start your countdown. From what we’ve heard so far I can’t imagine how it won’t be excellent.
