tuesday agenda : jens lekman x 2

  • Even though we didn’t sent Peter off Sweden just so that he could send me a copy of Jens Lekman’s stunning new album Night Falls Over Kortedala [secretlycanadian] on the day of its Scandinavian release rather than making me wait an extra month, it was a happy coincidence that it worked out that way. Ever since, I’ve been counting down the days until the Seattle stop on Jens’s U.S. tour. If you didn’t rush out and buy the CD weeks ago (shame on you!), the best way that I can think to explain it is by asking you to imagine that Gregg Gillis was born in a suburb of Gothenburg, liked singing more, had a brief stint at working at a rural BINGO parlor, and was obsessed with gold-hued 70s (or 50s or 60s or all of the above, I don’t really know. My Name that Tune foo is weak) pop. It is wondrous collage of surprising, funny, insightful songwriting and sampling and it’s will just be a lot easier if you listen to “Friday Night at the Drive-In Bingo” [mp3] and “The Opposite of Hallelujah” [mp3] right now and clear your schedule for tonight to see how he turns all of that into a live show. With Seattle’s own Throw Me The Statue and Viktor Sjöberg. $12+, 8pm [nectar]
  • If you absolutely refuse to go to Fremont and/or pay money to see amazing things, Jens Lekman is also doing a free in-store performance at the Queen Anne Easy Street at 6 pm. Still not convinced? My favorite song from You’re So Silent Jens, “Black Cab” [mp3] gives a nice sense of his more guitar-centric indie pop side.
