it looks like Africa Mama won’t be getting her oft-abandoned home back anytime soon. This morning I noticed these signs in the window of the storefront at the intersection of Broadway and Denny indicating that Peet’s is coming to Capitol Hill, mere steps from the Vivace Roasteria.

Guess where else there is a Peet’s coffee coming in? At the four way stop on Queen Anne and Boston. There are already 3 coffee shops right there, Cafe Ladro, Tulley’s and Starbucks. I wonder if Peet’s will survive…..

As ambivalent as I am about Peet’s, I’m glad they’re taking that spot. It should provide some much needed stability to that corner.

Of course Vivace is moving down the street to Brix, correct? Making room for a lightrail station, I believe.

Yeah. I meant to mention that, but didn’t remember when Vivace was moving. Either way, I don’t think that Peet’s has much hope of cutting in on their turf.

They may be a bit deluded but who knows, new-age Hillers may take to their relatively sleek product, especially given a locaiton whose only immediate competition is the tiny, crowded Joe Bar. They make good in Fremont, but they’re also the only real coffeestop option aside from Ladro for blocks, and they do have prime real estate there.
