I'd definitely rate "30 Days..." as pretty darned-good. It starts off a bit slow at the outset, but the somewhat languid pacing does seem to be a nice way of setting up the story & characters (of which the town itself is a prominent one). And there's none of this namby-pamby "ooh, I'm just a misunderstood creature! Boo-hoo! I never wanted to be this way!" poppy-cock from the vamps, either; they're your classic, immoral, animalistic undead who make no excuses for their condition.

Josh Harnett does a good job in the role of the hunky hero, hitting just the right balance of stoic, manly bravado and Mr. Sensitive Guyness, and Melissa George gets in some good moments as his estranged girlfriend. There's sufficient blood-and-gore for the finale, including some pretty explicit axe-hacking, and a bit of a twist ending that leaves the audience feeling a bit somber, but still satisfied.

All-in-all, one of the better recent comic book adaptations (from the original horror series created by Steve Niles & illustrated by Ben Templesmith).
