thursday agenda: tullycraft, tokyo police club, interpol
Like the gathering weatherpocalypse, Thursday night is overfilled too many good bands descending on local clubs for our own good. One can’t help but wish that there were more evenings in October. Luckily, we gave you plenty of advance warning; so by now I can only assume that you have a failsafe plan for tonight:
- Samantha gave you plenty of notice about Tullycraft, writing: “after months and months and months and months of waiting and hearing about them playing in other towns and wondering sadly why they’ve been shunning us, why they don’t love us anymore, Tullycraft have announced both a new album release and a show date. ” [mb] That night has arrived. To pass the time between now and then, watch this video a few times [youtube]. With Math & Physics Club, Patience Please (also releasing a CD tonight). $8, 9pm [crocodile]
- Tokyo Police Club, who are “teaching a new generation the pleasures of slouchy, synthtastic, dance rock while breaking new ground in enthusiastic tambourining (at one point Graham Wright deflected a flying beach ball with his tambourine without missing a beat)” [mb] at Bumbershoot are back in town. If you missed them in the great outdoors, I suspect that the confines of a midsized club are much more of their element. Word has it that the back of Neumo’s is now louder than the front thanks to a magical new soundsystem. Plan accordingly. With the Virgins, White Rabbit. $12, 8pm [neumos]
- Liars and Interpol will do their best to fill the cavernous curtained expanse of the WaMu Theater. As I mentioned previously [mb], Interpol is a pretty known quantity, all opaque lyrics (though “No I in Threesome” may be the most transparent thing Paul Banks has ever written) and huge guitars; so the smart money on being surprised (although, in this age of swirling internet hype [oxam], maybe that’s not even possible) is in showing up early enough to catch Liars. Either way, both are just the sort of music for short days and long nights of gloomy weather. $27.50, 8pm [wamu]
