The most expensive block in Seattle

The people over at Forbes.com like to make lists: the top 10 highest paying jobs in the US, the 10 real estate markets most likely to crash, and so on. This is cool with me since I often find lists of “Top Ten [whatevers]” to be interesting, or at least worth a quick peruse.

Their most recent “top” list is the “Top 10 most expensive blocks in the US”. Seattle makes it onto the list with Lake Wash Blvd, between “East Denny Laine Place” and Howell Place. (Those of you familiar with the neighborhood know it’s actually East Denny Blaine Place, but it amuses me to think that someone at Forbes thinks Seattle has a street named after an ex-member of Wings.) As noted on the Forbes site, people living in this block have views across the lake and panoramas of Mount Rainier. The houses in this area are generally very large and while several of them look quite pretty from the outside, I’m already a lazy housekeeper and wouldn’t want to deal with the upkeep on a house that size myself.

I kind of doubt any of those folks clean their own houses.

    Apropos of nothing…

Am I the only one who loves saying Denny Blaine in a William Shatner-esqe delivery from Boston Legal?

That is the very block which Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain’s house was. There is a little park adjacent where fans used to place candles and memorabilia at the base of a tree every year on the anniversary of his death. 10 years ago there was a lot of mix tapes and notes there every year, now there is almost nothing.
