  • You’d think that with a website (but not a fansite) named after an early Rilo Kiley song I would have been more on top of the fact that not only do they have a new album, but the band of onetime child stars are also playing at the Showbox tonight. Alas, the fall music season arrives quickly (and I was so excited about the third bullet point on this list that all other concerts were invisible to my eyes), leaving the unprepared out in the cool autumn evening. sold out[showbox]
  • I’ve already gushed a bit for my love for mumblecore when Bishop Allen came to the Crocodile [mb] and Zee already told you about the Northwest Film Forum’s “mumble without a cause” series that’s running this weekend. But what can one more reminder hurt? David Katz is in town for back-to-back screenings of his Dance Party USA and Quiet City. In the latter, a girl takes the subway into New York City, has trouble getting in contact with her friend, and asks a guy for directions to a diner. They spend the weekend together, walking around Park Slope, visiting an art gallery, and going to a party. It’s probably a lot like your life — no strong narrative, just a lot of little moments that just might turn out to eventually be meaningful or not — except gently captured in gorgeously colorful digital video. Through Sunday [nwff]
  • Wolf Parade, the wolf band by which all wolf bands should be judged, has already spawned so many amazing side projects that it might as well be considered among the ranks of the Canadian supergroups. As good as Sunset Rubdown, Handsome Furs, and Swan Lake are, there’s that little something extra of having all the members together, voltron-style. More than a little bit of that mystical glue is the impeccable sound manipulation and rock theremin of Hadji Bakara. With Seattle’s own Siberian and excellently-named Canadian experimentalists, Holy Fuck! [neumos]

reminder: only a few hours left until a winner is chosen for those okkervil river tickets [mb] — email your entry to seattle.metblogs @ gmail.com right away to enter.

please do an elaborate comparison piece with snake bands and wolf bands, in terms of both names and quality.
