Chaplin at the Paramount
Film historians almost unfailingly describe Charlie Chaplin’s film work in glowing terms, but the few films of his that I have seen left me unimpressed. Then again, I was a kid watching them on Saturday TV; experience has taught me time and time again that a change in perspective is often a change in opinion. There are a lot of films I previously disliked that I like so much better now that I’ve seen them as an adult.
This is why I’m looking forward to going to the Paramount on Monday, September 10, to see a program of Charlie Chaplin shorts (with accompanying music on the Wurlitzer organ). The Silent Movie Monday Charlie Chaplin Triple Play happens every Monday from then through October 1; there’s a different selection of films each time.
