new ipod day means buying KT Tunstall directly from Starbucks to get even easier

Apple announced a new iPod, which is basically an iPhone without the phone part, this morning. Starting in October, Seattle early-adopters will be the first to have the pleasure of using it to buy music directly out of the air in their friendly neighborhood Starbucks locations. In fact, the device will even tell you what Starbucks-approved jam is playing on the cafe’s hi-fi so that you can buy it on the iPod’s WiFi to bring the “third place” listening experience home with you. While we wait for the new devices to ship and the Starbuckses to outfit themselves with new features, let’s just sit quietly and play a little game of “how do I feel knowing that the 8GB iPhone now costs less than I paid for my 4GB model in July: better or worse than someone who just bought the 8GB model for $599 before the price dropped to $399?”

Maybe you can console yourself that since they’re phasing out the 4gb iPhone that one day it’ll be a rare collectable that only a few people got and thus will be worth millions.

Yeah, I’m pretty o.k. with having paid the premium for the joy of having iPhone for the the past couple months.

I just bought an iPhone last week and I was completely pissed! Then I called Apple who gladly refunded my credit card the difference. This may be because it’s under the 14 day return policy window, but it might be worth a try for others.

That’s cool that they did the refund.

I think I’d be angry if I’d bought an 8GB model recently, but since I bought the 4GB model two months ago I have less reason to be agitated (or recourse for compensation). Part of the reason that I bought the 4GB is because I suspected that new stuff was on the way. The other reason was that it was the last iPhone left at the Apple Store when I went to buy one and I didn’t want to wait for another shipment.

i was wondering how you felt about that — i’m glad you’re not too upset. i’m excited about the 80gb for $249 — finally the space i want at a price i don’t find repulsive.
