is it any wonder that activity on metroblogging seattle slows down when the weather looks like this? (photo by slightlynorth [flickr] via our group pool [#])
  • I’m so confused about Trafficpocalypse. Is it on or off? Today, Danny Westneat praises the maths genius who predicted that it wouldn’t materialize [times] based on previous data showing that in typical highway and bridge shutdowns an average 25 percent drop in all car trips. (Even non-geniuses shouldn’t be surprised that other parts of the system are running better than usual given that there are fewer users.)
  • Nevertheless, the view from Georgetown (and WSDOT cameras) shows that there is still plenty of congestion to go around and asks “why are we supposed to be pissed that the Clog Blog over estimated the threat of traffic problems?” [papernoose]
  • Worrying about that fate of Twice Sold Tales, blaming Red Balloon. [broadwayseattle]
  • The bizarre Mission Impossible style break-in at the Apple Store. [times]
  • Angles not covered in previous link: but why steal broken/repaired laptops instead of new ones? who knew that brick & mortar Apple stores were selling refurbished iPhones?

Stealing someone’s used computer seems way smarter to me than stealing a brand new one…not only are you getting a computer (which if you’re at all savvy about Macs, it’s probably not too hard to fix most of the issues people bring them in for), but you might hit the jackpot with someone’s social security number, credit card info, etc.

They probably thought that out. Which alarms me a little.

yes, i worried about that too. I was really hopong someone would chime in with information about how new computers were stored in some sort of impenetrable vault, leaving only the repairs.

Wow, that Apple Store theft thing is so odd. I’ve been in the back area at the UVillage location; it looks sort of like a CostCo. I wonder how the thieves got ladders set up to reach the roof when the RAM is open so late — or if they got up there through an unlocked stairwell in another store? Victoria’s Secret? Coach?

I’d be surprised if it wasn’t an inside job. To do something like that takes a lot of planning (I imagine). And huge, [amoral] balls, too.
