Local Pipe Band Takes Top Scot Spot
Earlier in the year I told you about the Northwest Junior Pipe Band, a local organization that teaches young people traditional pipe band music. I want to take a moment here to congratulate them on their recent competetive victories (the Grade 4 band just took first place at Whidbey Island’s Highland Games) and to urge you to take a look at their site, which includes a great blog and consider donating to their fund for a trip to Scotland in 2008. These kids work hard and put on an entertaining show and best of all, their involvement in this organization helps keep them out of trouble. Congrats, band members, and good luck getting to Scotland.

I actually watched them perform this weekend. Great bunch! It was exciting to see them win.
Thanks for the note. NWJPB is appearing Saturday in the Monroe Fair Days Parade beginning at 11:00 am, then again at the Evergreen Fair in Monroe, roaming through the grounds from 2:30 to 3:00.
Sunday is our year end picnic at a lake, and most of the kids take a couple weeks off from practice, unless they choose to participate in the other fun project our Drum instructor Steve Roy runs: Bucketmen. After that, we start working on the new music we’re taking to Scotland for the World Championships.
Update: I posted a blog in response, you really got me thinking about the “side effects” of our organization and it’s impact on youth. Take a peek! (click my name below)
