Weekend Agenda
Friday-Saturday - 14/48: the world’s quickest theater festival @ Capitol Hill
Arts Center - “7 playwrights. 7 directors. 7 designers. 7 musicians. 35 actors. 14 plays. 48 hours.” Closing weekend. I’ve prepared to have my socks knocked off by wearing old socks.
Friday-Saturday - Festival of Wayward Music @ Good Shepard Center - “We will be publicly inaugurating the Chapel venue and welcoming our new piano, as well as celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Good Shepherd Center, with a festival of massive proportions. Friday at 8 p.m. is the piano christening with Gust Burns, Dawn Clement, Wayne Horvitz, Julie Ives, Johanna Kunin, Victor Noriega, Amy Rubin, Hugo Solis/Duo Juum, and Cristina Valdes. Saturday will be a marathon from noon - 10 p.m. featuring 15-minute sets by One World Taiko, Climax Golden Twins, Gamelan Pacifica, Garrett Fisher Ensemble, and many other local experimentalists of all stripes.” Help them welcome their piano. Hi piano, welcome! I went to a performance there a couple of weeks ago, and loved it. Besides, the sets are short enough that if you don’t like one, the next one comes up right quick.
Friday-Sunday - Babeland’s Summer Sale @ 25% off everything. Stock up on your gizmos and whatsits.
Saturday 1 p.m. - Polka Dot Rocker @ 6th & Yesler - “A points race for Seattle’s very own King/Queen of the Mountain featuring the most grueling and scenic climbs the city has to offer. Prizes. Whiskey. Epic riding.” And a free BBQ at the end. What are a few hills to a seasoned Seattle bicyclist like you?
Saturday-Sunday - 4th Annual Renewable Energy & Sustainable Living Fair @ Meridian Park School (175th & Meridian), Shoreline - See solar powered stuff, powering wind powered stuff, driving biodiesel powered stuff. And they’re throwing in “A Taste of Shoreline” to boot. I wonder what Shoreline tastes like?
Saturday-Sunday - Night & Day Street Scramble @ Bathhouse Theater, Green Lake - “…a foot, bike, or duathlon race that brings you to nooks and crannies of a city you’ve never seen before. Sixty point-valued checkpoints are placed throughout Seattle. Visit checkpoints in any order you choose for 3, 7, or 16 hours. Teams returning with the most points are the winners! Checkpoints will be located at landmarks both famous and obscure, as well as scenic parks and wild places. Your route will give you a tour of your chosen city unlike any other.” - And, what better timing, now that the rain has returned for the weekend? What could be more Seattleish?
Saturday-Sunday - The Mediterranean Fantasy Festival @ Hiawatha Community Center - “Largest and longest running festival in the Pacific NW”. I haven’t verified that, but, there’ll be sword balancers, fire dancers, and belly dancers from all over the world.
Saturday - BMX State Championship Series Race @ North SeaTac BMX park - “BMX racers of all ages and from all over Washington State will come to race in this important event. We are expecting racers as young as 3-4 years old and racers who are 50 to 70 years young.” See how others test out their health insurance, riding their bicycles over dirt mounds and such.
Saturday - FrankenBoot @ The Re-bar - Mash-ups abound. You can dance to it. Love that stuff.
Saturday 10 p.m. - Jessica Lurie and Danijel Zezelj: Dedicated to Chaos @ McLeod Residence - “Dedicated to Chaos, a multi-media performance piece with live music and painting created by Jessica Lurie and Danijel Zezelj” - Saxophone, accordion, singing AND painting. All at the same time. Delicious.
Saturday 10:30 p.m. - Voyager One @ Laser Dome, Pacific Science Center - “A live performance by Voyager One (psychedelic, indie rock, electronic) accompanied by 16mm films from visual artist Projectorhead and lasers by Ivan.” I like lasers.
Sunday - Centennial Berry Bash @ Pike Place Market - Thing 1: Pie Baking Contest @ 10:00 a.m. - bring your best berry pie down and see how it fares. Thing 2: Pie Eating Contest @ 2:30 p.m. - “Six lucky contestants will be randomly chosen from the crowd. Prize is a Centennial gift pack.” And a tummy-ache. I was in a cake-eating contest once, and got bunch of cake in my nose. Oops.
Sunday - Cyclefest Outdoor Cinema @ Magnuson Park - Food, beer, bicycle polo!, and watching “Tour de France’s most exciting stages shown on a 15′ x 20′ inflatable screen.” Make sure to drive there. Ha.

I hereby revoke Brad’s Seattle license for the obvious mistake of directing me to the “Capital Hill Arts Center.” I’m sure that there was some good info after that, but… come on, dude!
fixed!
Ug! I HATE it when I accidently make that mistake, ’cause it bugs me, too!
