Still more still more still more outdoor cinema
Once upon a time (well, a few weeks back), I wrote a post about outdoor cinema in Seattle that mentioned Cinema on the Lawn in South Lake Union, Seattle Outdoor Cinema in Fremont, and Movies at the Mural at the Seattle Center. After that post was up, I made a post about another outdoor cinema series, this one held in Pioneer Square. Shortly after that, a kindly reader informed me of yet another outdoor cinema series, West Seattle’s own Sidewalk Cinema. After that post, I was convinced that there couldn’t possibly be any more outdoor film series. I was wrong, though, oh-so-very wrong.
The Rainier Tower, downtown Seattle, has their own outdoor cinema series, entitled “Movies on the Pedestal“. Movies start 30 minutes after sunset, so it may be too late for you to get down there tonight for Office Space, but the series continues every Thursday through August. Next Thursday they’ll be showing Casino Royale. Other upcoming films include The Bourne Supremacy, Field of Dreams, North by Northwest, Best in Show, and Shaun of the Dead. One of my little quirks is that while I am mostly disinterested in the actual sport of baseball, I absolutely love baseball-related movies and am always ready to hear other people’s recommendations. I didn’t think I would like Field of Dreams because I expected it to be overly sentimental and treacly. To be honest, it kind of is but it remains a great film nevertheless. North by Northwest is one of Hitchcock’s most suspenseful thrillers, which is saying a lot, and Best in Show made me laugh until my sides ached. Good choices, Rainier Square.
Tempting as it is to think that this time I’ve really, truly got all the outdoor cinema in Seattle listed at last, I’m going to stay open-minded here and ask you all once again to let me know if there are still others out there that I’ve missed.

Does http://seattle.metblogs.com/archives/2006/06/drivein_movies.phtml count? It’s outdoors…. but ok, it’s not in seattle…..
Well, you could make a claim for including it, but when I think of “outdoor cinema” I don’t think of drive-ins, since most people who go to them actually sit inside their cars to watch. For me, outdoor cinema involves the audience being actually outdoors, on blankets or chairs or just the sidewalk or grass.
Would you believe there’s even yet another? Havana is hosting a hip-hop style outdoor cinema in their parking lot. Seattle City Lights is even shutting off the street lamps, there’s free popcorn, you can drink, they provide the lawn chairs and they’re going to have DJs afterward…
Cal Anderson Park has three outdoor movies on the bill for August: Creature from the Black Lagoon (in 3-D), a Carmen Miranda film, and Supergirl.
