Weekend Agenda

Friday-Sunday - West Seattle Summer Fest - Lotsa West Seatlle-riffic stuff. “Awesome” will be there 7 p.m. on Friday. Lots of other typical NW festival activities abound.

Friday-Saturday - Legends In Their Own Minds @ Jewel Box Theatre - Mark Siano, creator of his “Soft Rock Spectacular” (which was highlarious!) and of the sketch comedy group “The Habit”, and some friends make you laugh.

Friday 4:30 p.m. - 31st Annual Jungle Party @ Woodland Park Zoo - Another party/fundraiser. But with this one, there are animals. The whole event is somewhat spendy, but, the auction items are smashing. And charity auctions are surprisingly fun, even if you’re just watching people out-bid each other.

Friday 6 p.m. - Youngstown Art Affair @ Youngstown Cultural Arts Center - Fundraiser for the Delridge Neigborhoods Development Association. Art auction, raffle, soul food, and a hosted martini bar.

Friday 7 p.m. - Harry and the Potters @ Seattle Public Library - Yes, an indie pop band who sings songs about Potter et al. See ‘em in honor of the new movie, and the last book. I sense a Metroblogging post on all things Harry soon…

Friday-Sunday & 20th-21st - The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy @ Seattle Public Theater at the Bathhouse, Green Lake - Teenagers act out the Guide. If they are as enthusiastic about it as I was, then, then, this should be fun.

Friday-Saturday & 20th-21st - 14/48: the world’s quickest theater festival @ Capital Hill Arts Center - “7 playwrights. 7 directors. 7 designers. 7 musicians. 35 actors. 14 plays. 48 hours.” Last time I went, the event had popped; it was well attended, and the plays themselves were quite compelling, especially (possibly/probably even due to) the constraints of creating a play in 48 hours.

Saturday 11:30 a.m. - 5th Annual Samish Bay Bivalve Bash and Low Tide Mud Run @ Taylor Shellfish Farms, Bow, WA - “Yard for yard, the Northwest’s toughest foot race. Clean-up hoses provided.” Ever try running through mud? Not easy. But, a good way to beat the heat. Limited to the first 200 entrants.

Saturday 2 p.m.-8 p.m. - Sound Outside @ Cal Anderson Park - Orkestar Zirkonium and others will be there. Should be a smashing day to be at the park.

Saturday-Sunday - Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival @ Volunteer Park - Pretty much says it all. ‘Cause you need more reasons to be outside.

Saturday-Sunday - Bastille Day Weekend @ Everywhere - Celebrate being all Frenchy. Go upscale Saturday night via a “five-course prix-fixe menu fit for royauté” at Campagne, midscale all day Saturday at Café Campagne, or downscale via French fries at Dick’s. Le Pichet downtown has stuff going on Saturday night, too. Don’t forget the new Café Presse. Or, heck, there’s gotta be a Frenchy place near you, too. I sense a Metroblogging post on all things French soon…

Saturday 9 p.m. - Third Annual Bring Your Own Art Exhibition @ Youngstown Cultural Arts Center - They accept ALL art submissions ’till the day of the event. Once my art projects are done, they’ll debut here next year!

Saturday 12:30 p.m. - World Naked Bike Ride @ Fairview Park (next to the geographic center of Seattle) - Too hot for clothes? Like a little breeze via a bike ride to cool you off? Here you go.

And because it’s been WAY too hot…

Sunday 11 a.m. - Bare Buns Fun Run @ Tiger Mountain - A clothing-optional 5K run up the side of Tiger Mountain. Not too many details, I guess you go to Tiger Mountain and ask around. Or just look for the naked people.

Sunday - Customer Appreciation Dat @ Stitches - “You did it! Stitches was voted 2007 People’s Pick for best “knitting, sewing, or crafts shop” by NW Source. To thank you for your vote (and continued support) we will give you 20% off everything in the store.” And what a coincidencde, I need to create a super-hero costume for next weekend. Serendipitous. Thanks for the heads-up, Kristen!
