All Nations Cup begins this weekend

This weekend–and next weekend and the weekend after that–I will be spending a bunch of my time at the All Nations Cup. The All Nations Cup (formerly World Cup Seattle) is a soccer tournment played by over 35 different teams representing their homelands. (Including, yes, the USA.) The Cup matches begin Friday night, July 13, when the opening night festivities (featuring music, dancing, a welcoming ceremony performed by members of the Muckleshoot tribe) is followed by the first match of the tournament.

This and next weekend matches–and the international festival that accompanies them–are played at Starfire down in Tukwila; on Sunday, July 29, the tournament concludes with a championship game at Seattle’s Memorial Coliseum.
