Anxious Objects: Willie Cole at the Frye

Willie Cole is an American artist who creates sculpture from found objects and drawings made from iron scorchmark. Items that have gone into his works include hairdryers, ironing boards, and all sort of discarded domestic appliances. Cole’s work sometimes appears superficially silly, particularly on first glance, but has a great depth and substance to it. The Frye Art Museum is currently hosting an exhibition focused on some of his contemporary work, Anxious Objects: Willie Cole’s Favorite Brands, which runs through September 3. Go check it out. While you’re at the Frye, you can also see Fiat Mumbo, an exhibition of paintings by Northwest artist David C. Kane, whose work is strongly influenced by science fiction, noir and other aspects of pop culture.
